What is Cottage Paint? Is it Canadian? How long has this company been in business?
Cottage Paint is manufactured by Protek paints, which is a Canadian company which has been in business for 65 years. When Randall Rogers says "paint runs in my veins", he really means it because he is a third generation paint maker. Protek Paint & Varnish Company was started in 1950 by his grandfather, Ed Rogers at age 47. With a family to support and many years as a Varnish maker, Ed not only started to make paint, but the resins used in the paint as well. A lot of Lab time, and research goes into making paint.
What is Cottage paint and what makes it so special?
Do you think you have to wait around until the weather warms up so you can open up your windows to get rid of the stinky paint or varnish smell?Think again, Cottage Paint is a low voc paint. ( Voc's are volatile organic compounds) which offgas as your paint dries). If you suffer from allergies, the smell can really bother you.
Do I have to sand and strip and prime? In most cases, no. As long as your surface is clean, sealed and sound No priming, No sanding, No stripping is required. It can be applied directly over a varnished or laquered surface. Once dry, it can be easily distressed with a damp cloth- no sanding required. Leaves a velvety smooth time-worn chalky finish. Using a damp cloth instead of sandpaper to distress the surface protects the fine detailing found on furniture. Once the desired effect is achieved, choose between a wide selection of top coats available in the Cottage Paint line. Choose the one that best suits the kind of usage.
Choose from the original Cottage paint, which can be distressed, and needs topcoating, or our Serenity line of Cottage Paint, which is a solid look, and has a topcoat built into the finish, or try Urban Cottage paint, which is a dramatic, metallic finish.
